Tragic twist after body found at beach near Mackay Boat Harbour

After police declared a crime scene, swarming a beach amid a grim discovery, forensic examinations have revealed a sad but not sinister result.

Police are treating the discovery of a body on a Queensland beach on Saturday as non-suspicious.

A crime scene had initially been declared on a beach south of Mackay Harbour on Saturday afternoon after two mates driving nearby spotted a vehicle of interest about 1.15pm.

Police tape was used to cordon off the area as reinforcements arrived and by 4pm, the crime scene area had been expanded.

Speaking to this publication at the East Point Drive scene, a witness said he was driving with a mate when they spotted a white LandCruiser which they believed matched one they had seen reported as stolen on a local crime watch page.

“We went down to have a look and noticed all the windows were boarded up with cardboard and taped shut,” he said.

When the man saw what was inside he immediately dialled Triple-o, triggering swarms of marked and unmarked cars.

Five police officers, two detectives and two forensic officers were seen at the scene on Saturday afternoon, as police worked hard to determine what had happened and a crime scene was declared.

About 9pm however, officers confirmed the death was non-suspicious.
