Police declare crime scene at Moranbah house fire

Police are standing guard at a home which was ‘fully engulfed’ by fire overnight. Scenes of crime and fire investigators are expected to arrive today.

A crime scene has been declared at a Moranbah home after the property was fully engulfed by flames overnight.

It is understood members of the Bowen Basin community called emergency services about 11.20pm January 9 with two fire crews arriving at the Watkins St property 10 minutes later.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokesman said the home was well alight upon arrival.

Police were also called and officers closed off the street.

The fire was extinguished by midnight but the extent of the damage remains unknown.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said it was reported the home, which was vacant at the time, was “fully engulfed” by the fire.

It is understood the owners had been away since before Christmas.

Paramedics were also called to the scene but no one was injured or suffered from smoke inhalation.

It is understood police scenes of crime and a fire investigator will attend the address this morning.

A crime scene has been declared with police guarding the site while the cause of the fire is investigated.
