Oliver Zveglic charged over two separate shooting incidents in Mackay

A man who allegedly shot someone after a meeting at a cemetery before ordering him to drive to a service station has been arrested in Brisbane in relation to two separate shooting incidents.

A gunman who allegedly shot a man after a meeting at a cemetery before forcing him into his own car has been arrested over two separate shooting incidents in Mackay.

He then allegedly evaded police for almost three months before he was arrested on serious allegations including attempted murder.

Police allege Oliver Zveglic shot a man in the torso with a rifle before forcing him into his own vehicle after a meeting at Sarina Cemetery on June 22, 2024.

It is alleged Mr Zveglic, 28, had been with Tarni Maree Hinschen when the meeting occurred.

Police allege there was an argument and Mr Zveglic shot the man in the hip once before ordering the wounded man into the driver’s seat of his own car.

It is further alleged Mr Zveglic held a firearm to his head and ordered him to drive to a Sarina service station where exited the vehicle enabling the man to drive away.

Police allege Mr Zveglic got into another vehicle with Ms Hinschen and then pursued the man throughout the township, shooting at him out the window, before ramming the man’s vehicle on the Sarina Range.

It is alleged the duo drove off and the man was taken to Sarina Hospital in a serious condition.

Ms Hinschen, 22, was arrested first and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, dangerous conduct with a weapon, deprivation of liberty and robbery with actual violence armed/in company/wounded, used personal violence.

Police have recovered a rifle, which they allege was used in the shooting.

Her matters are currently progressing through Mackay Magistrates Court and are listed for mention later this year.

It is alleged when police picked up Ms Hinschen, Mr Zveglic stole another vehicle to avoid arrest.

Police allege on August 6 he shot at a 42-year-old man following an incident at Illawong Dr in South Mackay.

It is further alleged Mr Zveglic stole the 42-year-old man’s car. Police allege the pair are known to each other.

He was arrested in the Brisbane area on September 14.

Mr Zveglic is charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, deprivation of liberty, dangerous conduct with a weapon, dangerous driving and unlawful use of a motor vehicle in relation to the alleged Sarina offending.
He is further charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, deprivation of liberty, assault while armed, five counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts of receiving tainted property and stealing over the South Mackay offending.

Mr Zveglic faced Caboolture Magistrates Court on Monday and his matters have been transferred to Mackay.
