Police have charged a man over the death of Finch Hatton woman Suzanne Scott more than seven months after the tragedy shocked the Pioneer Valley.
It will be alleged she was struck as her car was being stolen from her property.
Ms Scott, 69, died following an incident at her Boulder St home in the late afternoon on July 4, 2022.
North Rockhampton man Matthew Owen Woodcock, 37, has been charged with dangerous driving causing her death.
“Police will allege Ms Scott was killed in the course of her motor vehicle being stolen,” Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Eaton said on Monday.
It will be alleged Mr Woodcock was trying to steal her car.
It is alleged her body was then driven from her home to a Zahmel St address about 6pm.
Emergency services arrived on scene a short time later, with the woman sustaining critical injuries and was pronounced dead.
Ms Scott and Mr Woodcock are unknown to each other.
It is understood he had been staying nearby at the time the alleged offence occurred.
Mr Woodcock is also charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and enter premises and commit offence over the incident.
If convicted of dangerous driving causing death Mr Woodcock could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
“The arrest of the 37 year old male person finalises the police investigation into the death of Ms Scott,” Senior Sergeant Eaton said.
“It’s been a protracted and involved investigation.”
The Mackay Criminal Investigation Branch Officer in Charge praised the efforts of investigators and officers who had worked on the seven-month investigation.
Mr Woodcock will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court on March 8.
