Man charged with rape, deprivation of liberty in Mackay region

The victim of an alleged rape is set to be questioned in the case against a man accused of holding her against her will and sexually attacking her.
Matters against the man were mentioned in Mackay Magistrates Court on Thursday as the case was listed for a committal hearing that was expected to take about 90 minutes.
The court heard there would be just one witnesses to be questioned.
The man is charged with rape and derivation of liberty, alleged to have occurred in mid 2024 in the Mackay region.
He is on bail under strict conditions.
Because of the rape charge, the matter has to be dealt with in the district court.
He is not being named in this article in case it may identify the alleged victim.
Defence barrister Scott McLennan, instructed by Fisher Dore Lawyers, submitted a draft order in relation to the cross examination that was agreed to by prosecution.
The case was listed for a committal hearing with cross examination in late September.
