A Mackay mum of two tried to extort $300 over a stolen motorbike and threatened to “come and take what’s owed” if the owner didn’t pay up.

The victim had posted on a local Facebook group about his stolen motorbike offering a reward for anyone who came forward to help find it.

Then 23, Madison Elizabeth Lamb sent him a message in September 2022 claiming she would tell him who stole his bike if he paid her the reward.
She insisted he pay her first — but Lamb also tried to sell the motorbike for half a ball of meth to two others.

Mackay District Court heard she did provide some information, that “led to the extortion” with Lamb sending the victim a number of threatening messages.

“I’m not someone you want to f--- around either; send be $300 now and I’ll tell you who paid for it; don’t pay up and you’ll find out what happens”.

Lamb also sent messages including “it’s going to be more than just your f---ing bike soon; true honest to f---ing god; I will give you the name once you pay me like you said; if you don’t I’ll come take what’s owed”.

The owner of the stolen bike reported the matter to police.

She pleaded guilty to extortion on September 28, and two counts of dishonestly applying the motorbike to her own use and supplying meth on September 25.

The court heard the 25 year old spent 157 days in presentence custody in relation to outstanding matters.

It was suggested and accepted the offending was at the lowest end in all regards, and that Lamb “effectively has no criminal history”.

Lamb, who was born in Mackay and has two children aged seven and three, has had issues with drug use.

The court heard she had been introduced to meth through a past relationship and had struggled as a result but completed a drug course while in custody on remand.

She has taken proactive steps to sort her life out.

Judge John Coker said it was not clear how Lamb became aware of who had possession of the stolen motorbike “but quite clearly you sought to profit from that”.

“You sought to obtain the reward but you then behaved thereafter in a most inappropriate way,” Judge Coker said.

“Threats being made to him with regard to his own safety and wellbeing if moneys were not paid.”

Judge Coker said hopefully the conduct was not reflective of Lamb’s normal behaviour “but some of the circumstance that you found yourself in at the time”.

“You tried to sell the motorbike to two different people, obviously you were not entitled to do so,” he said, noting the offending seemed to be out of character based on her limited criminal history.

“I hope it has been a salient lesson to you that you need to change those whom you associate with and your direction in your life.

“Your children deserve better than you have … been able to provide to them.

“I am certainly of the view here that you have been punished … more than sufficiently,” Judge Coker added, referring to the time already served on remand.

She was jailed for six month wholly suspended for nine months and convictions were recorded.
