A young mum fast accumulating a serious criminal resume for riding in stolen cars and breaking into places has been accused of breaking into homes after Christmas only two weeks after her last sentence was handed down.

Shanae Jade Ison, 19, made a bail application in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on December 30 after being charged with two counts of enter dwelling and commit.

Police prosecutor Matt Saunders said Ison had accumulated a four-page criminal record in a short period of time and escalated very quickly.

Miss Ison was sentenced on November 9, 2023 to 12 months probation for eight charges and then on December 14, 2023, was sentenced to 18 months’ probation for a further eight charges.

She breached those probation orders and was re-sentenced for those and four counts of unlawful use of motor vehicles on March 19, 2024 to a six-months’ prison term.

In September, Miss Ison was sentenced to a 12-month prison term for enter premise and commit, three unlawful use of a motor vehicle, four counts of stealing, one possessing tainted property and one possessing drugs.

“That (enter premise charge) is quite pertinent,” Mr Saunders said.

He said the victim was working at Mid City Motor Inn Mackay on MacAlister St cleaning one of the rooms and Ison was captured on CCTV standing on a chair, climbing through an open window soon after before exiting via the window, walking to the carpark and entering the victim’s car which she drove off in.

Mr Saunders said Miss Ison was facing up to 18 months prison if convicted of her fresh charges of two enter dwelling and commit indictable offences, five breaches of bail and failing to appear in court.

He said the evidence in the alleged offending before the court included fingerprints belonging to Miss Ison on the outside of the flyscreen of the entry point along with CCTV of two females – one which looked like Miss Ison.

Defence lawyer Daniel Lane said the CCTV, which had not been provided to defence, “only says matches Miss Ison’s description” which he argued wasn’t as strong as police alleged especially when looking at the description outlined in the police documents.

He said Miss Ison, who was the mother of two-year-old, proposed to live with her grandmother if granted bail.

Acting magistrate Stephen Byrne said Miss Ison had a “reasonably poor history for breaching bail and failing to attend court”.

“I think there’s a very, quite unacceptable risk that she will reoffend,” he said.

Mr Byrne refused to grant her bail, remanding her in custody and adjourning her matters to January 21.
