Police are tracking a 63-year-old woman’s stolen car across Mackay after she was woken to a man inside her Andergrove unit early this morning.

The Andergrove woman woke to the noise of somebody inside her Oak St unit about 2.20am, telling police they appeared to be a man wearing a light blue hoodie and sweatpants.

The person was standing in her room and when she confronted him verbally, he fled outside.

Senior Constable Steve Smith said the intruder then ran to the yard taking off in the woman’s white Mitsubishi Mirage.

The woman soon realised her handbag, wallet and keys had all been stolen from the living room.

Constable Smith said the intruder had been searching the 63-year-old woman’s bedroom when she was disturbed.

Police believe the intruder gained access to the house through screen and timber doors which may have been left unlocked.

The vehicle has been seen across Mackay including on Shakespeare St towards the Edmund Casey Bridge, and police are investigating whether the Mirage was connected to an incident on Lagoon St shortly after 11am.

Anyone with any information about the incident or the current location of the Mitsubishi is encouraged to contact police as soon as possible.

The number plates of the Mitsubishi are 77 IAM.

Police can be contacted through Policelink or anonymously via Crimestoppers.
