Officers from Mackay police held a small service to honour slain colleague Senior Constable Dave Masters, whose funeral is today.
The much loved 53 year old was killed while on duty when an allegedly stolen car struck him in the early hours of June 26.
He had been attempting to deploy tyre spikes on the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane when the tragedy occurred. Two woman have been charged over the incident.
Mackay District Superintendent Glenn Morris, who led the short service at Old Town Hall Park on Sydney St, told those gathered Senior Constable Master had made “the ultimate sacrifice” in the line of duty. His funeral is being held in Brisbane.
Queenslanders are sharing their interactions with Dave from when he was a proud member of the QPS Mounted Unit. The favourite part of his job was meeting people in the community with his horse. ð #WithHonourHeServedpic.twitter.com/0Kr3GBVhCt

“As a policing family we haven’t been able to all meet and attend that funeral, so throughout the state and in Mackay … we’ve had a very small ceremony as a mark of respect to Dave … and his family and work colleagues,” Superintendent Morris said.
“Policing can be a very challenging, can be very rewarding but it’s also a very challenging occupation.
“When one of our colleagues and part of our policing family has lost his life, it has a tremendous impact on everybody … throughout our whole organisation.
“It was just wonderful to see the mark of respect and the show of support to Dave’s family from our officers in Mackay district.”
