Lisa Anne Catlin sentenced in Mackay court for failure to report

A magistrate has called out a mother of six over a lie she told after she breached reporting conditions as a registered sex offender. DETAILS

A mother of six has faced court after she failed to report as per her duties as a registered child sex offender.

Lisa Anne Catlin pleaded guilty to failing to report on March 1 as per conditions under the Child Protection (Offender Reporting) Act 2004.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard it was the first time the Alligator Creek mother had failed to report since July 2021.

It was not mentioned in court why Catlin became a registered child sex offender as she was supported in court by her support worker and co-ordinator.

Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Tahnee Wilkinson said the 47-year-old had “predominantly” been a stay-at-home to her six children in their younger years before Magistrate Damian Dwyer objected.

“Ms Wilkinson, you weren’t here for that period of time but I was,” Mr Dwyer said.

“She wasn’t a stay at home mum.

“You’ve got to be honest with me Ms Catlin, you think I’ve been here for a long time... you didn’t have too much to do with them at all.”

Ms Wilkinson then continued to say Catlin received a disability pension after receiving a brain injury, and submitted that a fine was within range for her client.

Mr Dwyer told Catlin he had only earlier that day sent a registered child sex offender to jail for failing to report and warned her it could “happen to you”.

Catlin was fined $300 and a conviction was recorded.
