A convicted Slade Point sex offender will fight charges alleging he breached robust conditions under the state’s strict child sex offender reporting laws.

Kelly Herbert William Liversidge is charged with 10 counts of failing to comply with reporting conditions between October 2022 and June 2023 in the Mackay region.

The 24-year-old is also charged with giving false or misleading information in February and May 2023 at Slade Point.

Mackay Magistrates Court heard Mr Liversidge has a warrant out for his arrest in New South Wales for similar alleged offending, however he will not be extradited while he is “under restraint” in Queensland.

The court heard Mr Liversidge had been on a suspended sentence for the same offence when it is alleged he committed some of the latest offending.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer said the “allegations seem to show a complete contempt of the order”.

“The allegations are not specific … it’s just about he ignored the order in respect of everything,” Mr Dwyer said.

Police Prosecutor Sergeant Linden Pollard said the allegations showed “the risk of reoffending is extremely high”.

Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Ancilla Seethya said her client “will be contesting the charges”.

He has not yet entered any pleas to the charges.

Mr Dwyer said his difficulty in relation to a bail application was Mr Liversidge already had convictions for similar offending, outstanding warrants in New South Wales and “similar offences in New South Wales going back 2018”.

Mr Dwyer questioned how he would be satisfied any risk of reoffending would be alleviated.

Ms Seethya said her client was amenable to being placed on a curfew condition as well as submitting to onerous reporting conditions up to four days a week.

“He’s home at night, but what about the day?” Mr Dwyer asked.

The court heard Mr Liversidge had work lined up as a bar manager.

Mr Dwyer said Mr Liversidge had a “long history” of this offending and “it seems to me the allegations are strong”.

“It’s a very serious offence,” Mr Dwyer said.

“I have a grave concern that you are not going to comply with your reporting obligations, you haven’t for a long period of time, in excess of five years now, I’ve got nothing that is going to give me any comfort that you’re going to start to.”

Bail was refused and Mr Liversidge was remanded in custody. Matters were adjourned to August 30.
