Jay Wade Veenstra is facing five counts of bestiality

The case against a Sarina man charged with multiple sex acts with two dogs over 12 months will likely be committed to the district court in early 2024.

Jay Wade Veenstra, 28 is charged with five counts of bestiality.

He was arrested in July 2023 with co accused Crystal May Hoare, 37, who is facing the same number of bestiality charges.

Her matters have already been committed to Mackay District Court.

The case was first mentioned in Sarina Magistrates Court in August and was adjourned to Mackay Magistrates Court.

Police will allege the sex acts involved two dogs and were recorded on October 18 in 2021 and on March 19, May 17, June 6 and October 25 in 2022 in the Sarina region.

Under Queensland law, anyone convicted of bestiality is liable to be jailed up to seven years.

The court heard Mr Veenstra had sought private representation for the case and was in the process of coming up with the funding.

The court heard it was indicated the matters would likely be a registry committal to the district court.

The case was adjourned to January for mention and Mr Veenstra is on bail.
