Five people charged and vehicles impounded in hooning crackdown
Police have charged five people and impounded cars after a crackdown on hooning across the region amid 19 road deaths this year.
Police have charged five people, issued multiple infringements and impounded several vehicles following a string of hooning and dangerous driving incidents across the region in the past fortnight.
Mackay Whitsundays District Highway Patrol officers have cracked down on hooning, leading to 10 dangerous operation of a motor vehicle charges laid, six traffic infringement notices issued and five vehicles impounded.
Officer in charge of Mackay Whitsundays District Highway Patrol, Senior Sergeant Shane Edwards, said this type of behaviour had no place on the region’s roads.
“Tragically, we have already lost 19 lives on our roads this year, and we are committed to taking strong action to prevent further tragedies,” he said.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to the members of the public who have assisted police with their investigations.
“Your co-operation is invaluable in helping us keep our roads safe for everyone.”
Investigations into a number of other complaints are still underway and witnesses are urged to contact police if they witness hooning or dangerous driving.
