A man has suffered a significant injury to his arm after he was trapped by his legs inside a truck following a two-vehicle crash on the Peak Downs Highway, closing the important thoroughfare.

Multiple fire crews, police and paramedics were called to the scene after the collision involving two trucks was reported about 10.40am in the vicinity of John Temple Dr at Eton.

By 11.45am firefighters were still cutting someone out of one of the trucks, a Queensland Fire Department spokesman said.

The man, who was the driver of the truck, has since been freed and is being assessed.

It is understood the man has suffered a significant injury to his arm, as well as injuries to his legs and stomach area.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said he was in a stable condition with serious injuries.

He has been taken to Mackay Base Hospital.

It is understood one truck rolled after the small tray truck and semi-trailer collided.

Initial reports indicate one of the trucks has gone down an embankment and a crane will be needed to remove it.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the highway was closed in both directions and diversions are in place.

More to come.
