A mother who allegedly stabbed her teenage daughter six times in the chest before turning the knife on herself in an alleged attempted murder attack has been cleared of any acute mental health concerns.

The woman, who cannot be named because it would identify her daughter, appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court on Wednesday via video link after she was released from hospital.

Prosecutor Lennon Stathoulis said the woman had been classified as a high risk prisoner and requested her matter be dealt with first.

The court heard a mental health assessment had been completed and she was deemed not to present with acute mental health concerns.

Mr Stathoulis said there was a police objection to bail, however Legal Aid Queensland solicitor Erin Beer, for the woman, said there was no application for bail at this time.

The court heard all matters would be committed to a higher court.

Under Queensland law child victims of, or witnesses to, a crime cannot be identified.

A brief of evidence must be disclosed by August 31 and the woman’s case will be mentioned again on September 7.

Ms Beer told the court she would be able to list her client’s matters earlier for a bail application if needed.

Police are investigating the alleged incident that unfolded about 4pm Monday at a Dysart home a teenage girl lived in with her mother.

Acting Detective Inspector Emma Novosel said multiple Triple-0 calls were made from inside the property including from a male friend of the girl, aged in his 20s.

She said the girl’s mother was also found with self-inflicted injuries at the home when police arrived.

She said it was unknown “at this stage” what sparked the incident and investigations were ongoing.

“There were a number of Triple-0 calls received as I understand, the male person contacted police by Triple-0,” she said.

“I understand there were six stab wounds in the chest area of the victim. She required transport for treatment.

“We are looking at what caused the incident. They (the two women) are known to each other.

“There was another male person … at the address; he intervened in the incident and he was (allegedly) assaulted by the suspect.”

She said the family was not known to police before the incident.

The teenage girl was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

She has since been flown to Townsville for further treatment where she remains in a stable condition.

The older woman is charged with attempted murder (domestic violence), common assault and serious assault police.

Inspector Novosel said the woman was initially taken to Dysart Hospital for treatment.

“She was treated for self-inflicted injuries so she was initially transported to hospital,” she said.

“Throughout the course of the evening, there were other incidents that occurred resulting in the serious assault of a police officer.”

The officer’s alleged injuries were unclear.

Inspector Novosel said investigations were ongoing and police remained at the home and would doorknock neighbouring properties on Tuesday.
