A Central Queensland mother who allegedly stabbed her daughter six times before turning the knife on herself may apply for bail as police want more time to compile their case.

What happens when you are charged with a crime?

The case against a Central Queensland mother who allegedly stabbed her teenage daughter six times in the chest before turning the knife on herself may push for bail release, while police chase more time to compile their case.

The woman, who cannot be named because it would identify her daughter, is charged with attempted murder against her daughter at a Dysart home in July 2022.

Police alleged an incident unfolded about 4pm on July 18 at the property where the pair lived, prompting a number of Triple-0 calls.

Under Queensland law, child victims or child witnesses to certain crimes cannot be identified.

When the matter was briefly mentioned on Monday Mackay Magistrates Court heard a brief of evidence had been due by August 31.

However police prosecutions applied to Magistrate Bronwyn Hartigan to have the due date extended until December 14.

Ms Hartigan accepted the police file would be a large one.

The woman remains in custody on remand and Ms Hartigan asked if her appearance would be needed at the next mention date.

“She has made an application for bail … but I would bring the matter on with the requisite notice,” the mother’s defence solicitor Erin Beer said.

She was remanded in custody and matters were adjourned to January 3, 2023.
