An Eimeo man has been charged with drink-driving following a fatal crash at Racecourse that claimed the life of Dysart man Jacob Betts.
The 24 year old had been released on parole in February, was working full-time at the mines in Dysart as a tyre fitter and was looking forward to his future when his life was tragically cut short.
About 5am on Mother’s Day the motorbike he was riding and a vehicle collided at the Horse and Jockey and Gibsons road intersection.
Mr Betts’s death was one of four on Mackay Whitsunday region roads within a week in May.
As a result police have laid charges against a 20-year-old Eimeo man in relation to the fatal crash.
He is charged with mid-range drink-driving on a provisional licence.
Police will allege his blood alcohol reading from between two and three times the legal limit for an open class driver at the time of the crash.
The Eimeo man will appear in Mackay Magistrates Court later this month.
