A man who allegedly stole a car using a knife to threaten the driver near a Mackay primary school has been found near the NSW border.
Queensland police have charged a 32-year-old Glasshouse Mountains man over the alleged carjacking about 3.30pm on February 14 along Goldsmith St near Victoria Park State School.
It is alleged the man approached a 29-year-old woman who was stopped in her car and demanded she exit the vehicle.
When the woman resisted “slightly”, police will allege the man presented a stanley-knife type small blade, Mackay District Inspector Emma Novosel said following the incident.
“Police will further allege a short struggle ensued resulting in the man fleeing the scene in the woman’s 2019 blue Ford Endura station wagon,” a Queensland Police Service statement said.
“The woman was not physically injured.”
Inspector Novosel said police will allege the man was later spotted attending the Farleigh Ampol service station where he bought items using the victim’s bank cards.
Four days later, police found the man in the allegedly stolen station wagon in Cunnamulla and he was taken into custody.
He was charged with enter premises, armed robbery, fraud (dishonest application of property of another), and unlawful use of a motor vehicle and appeared.
He faced Cunnamulla Magistrates Court on Monday.
Inspector Novosel said there was “no reason to believe he (the Glasshouse Mountains man) had been to the school or targeting anyone in particular.”
“Whenever there is a crime committed against a person using violence … is always concerning,” Inspector Novosel said.
“We are fortunate people came to the aid of this (alleged) victim and it was reported to us immediately … there are a number of witnesses.”
