Alleged Walkerston gunman Richard Alan Harvey appears in Mackay Magistrates Court
A Queensland mother has wept in court at the sight of her battered and bruised son after he allegedly attempted to steal a car at gunpoint outside a hotel bottleshop.

The mother of an alleged Walkerston gunman wept at the image of her son on a television screen in Mackay Magistrates Court.
Richard Alan Harvey was sporting a black eye – sustained after three patrons crash tackled him – as he appeared via videolink accused of attempting to steal a car at gunpoint while it was parked in the bottle shop at O’Shea’s Hotel Walkerston.
Mr Harvey has been charged with attempted armed robbery, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed and possession of a knife in a public place over the alleged incident.
Police will allege one man was shot in the abdomen as Mr Harvey was crash tackled to the ground when pub patrons stepped in.
Mr Harvey’s mother and friend sat in the courthouse as his lawyer asked to adjourn the bail application until Wednesday September 8.
“God bless you, child,” Mr Harvey’s mother said in the open court.
“We love you.”
Mr Harvey replied “hi mum, I love you”.
Magistrate Damien Dwyer informed Mr Harvey’s lawyer that he was the cousin of the owner of O’Shea’s Hotel Andrew Guthrie, but said he believed he could conduct the matter fairly.
He is expected to appear for a bail application at Mackay Magistrates Court on September 8.
