MACKAY residents have a clear vision of what they want for their city and, as a newcomer to the region, it's heartening to see.

Having moved north from Toowoomba, a great city but a landlocked one, I was thrilled to see plans for the waterfront priority development area as it will enhance the city's natural beauty. It's something our northern neighbour Townsville has done well with The Strand which has become a tourism drawcard.

And with tourism tipped as the next big thing for Mackay, it's a little perplexing there has been no greater movement towards something like the waterfront PDA before now.

But there are plans afoot now and it's something we will be following closely, just as I am sure you will be, too.
