AN ACCUSED burglar and car thief from Mackay, who's claimed to have been in a vehicle which struck a police officer, remains behind bars.

Kiren James Hazard, of Mackay, may have his case committed to a higher court in coming days or week depending on evidence presented, a court has been told.

Hazard, 27, has appeared before Mackay Magistrates Court on several occasions since Thursday, August 30, appearing over videolink from prison.

Hazard is facing 33 charges in total.

Charges include seriously assaulting police, common assault, two counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle, five counts of break and enter, unlawfully using vehicles, burglary and entering a dwelling with intent.

Hazard has also been charged with one count of unlawfully possessing weapons, one count of entering premises, two counts of failing to stop a vehicle, three counts of receiving tainted property, and two counts of driving without a licence. No pleas have been entered.

The charges have largely been dated between June 4 and June 20, during an alleged two-and-a-half week crime spree, during which Hazard was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run on a 49-year-old police sergeant, who suffered an ankle injury. On Thursday, Hazard, who waved to two women in the gallery, was represented by Fisher Dore Lawyers' solicitor Antoinette Morton.

Magistrate Damien Dwyer checked in on the progress of the case, which had been held up due to a lack of relevant police statements.

"Your honour, the matter was on the last occasion waiting on the provision of a fingerprints statement," Ms Morton said. "It relates to one fingerprint found in a vehicle ... there are approximately 12-14 scenes of crime (officer) statements, which include DNA analysis"

Hazard is due to appear in the court again on September 7.

Correction: It was recently reported Hazard had been facing 40 charges, some of which revolved around drugs. Hazard faces 33 charges, according to court documents, and he is not facing allegations relating to drugs.
