FOLLOWING on from our photo last week of the Taiwanese junk which graced the entrance to the city from 1977 to 1990, I came across a related photo from the archives.

It's taken at Mackay Harbour in 1977, and shows a navy vessel which has just brought in another illegal Taiwanese junk.

In the background you can see other junks, as many as four, moored in the harbour.

As we relayed in Our History on Friday, numerous illegal Taiwanese fishing junks were seized by Commonwealth authorities in the 70s and 80s.

The junk which was set up as a bit of a tourist attraction at the City Gates was called the Shin Hsun Yuan No 3.

Do you remember these junks?
