Moranbah man, 30, dies in head-on crash

A 30-YEAR-OLD Moranbah man died after a head-on two-car crash three kilometres south of the town on Saturday.

A 30-YEAR-OLD Moranbah man died after a head-on two-car crash three kilometres south of the town on Saturday.

Anthony Joseph Condon was driving from work on Moranbah Access Road when his and another vehicle collided about 6am, a Moranbah police spokesperson said.

His death is the 16th to occur on Mackay region roads this year.

The last was a 38-year-old truck driver who died in a crash near Bloomsbury on August 22.

The police spokesperson said the 54-year-old male driver of the sedan was transported to Moranbah hospital by a Queensland Ambulance Service crew with a fractured hip and serious lacerations.

Mr Condon died at the scene.

It took Queensland Fire and Rescue Service crews until 9.30am to clear the road for traffic.

Motorists alternated use of a single operational lane until then, she said.

A Queensland police media spokesperson confirmed Mr Condon was a father, but could not release any further information. Further information would be available pending an investigation.

In separate incidents, a passenger was taken to Proserpine hospital with facial injuries after a single-car accident on the Bruce Highway at Bloomsbury, about 90km north of Mackay, at 5am yesterday.

Another man was injured in a single-vehicle motorbike accident in the Pioneer Valley on Saturday. The accident occurred on the Eungella Dam Road, on a bend near Broken River, a Finch Hatton police spokesperson said.

''It appears the accident was caused by inexperience and excess speed,'' he said.

The man lost control on the corner and hit a tree.

He suffered minor injuries, including a broken ankle, he said.
