FOR newcomers, trying to access Middlemount’s secret social calendar can be an isolating ordeal.

But a friendly smile and a cup of coffee with Middlemount resident Jodie Crawter can reveal the vibrant community life of the beef and mining town.

“Middlemount is such a transient town. People are always coming and going,” Ms Crawter said.

When walking down the street, visiting shops or attending mothers’ groups, Ms Crawter said she made an effort to chat to all unfamiliar faces.

It was her welcoming presence and her heavy involvement in Middlemount’s community groups that led Ms Crawter to be presented with the Middlemount Inspiring Women in Isaac award.

“I don’t do what I do for the recognition, but its nice when a peer takes the time to write your story,” she said.

“I think its important because so many people put in so much effort.

“There’s people in every town who are like that. It’s about raising them up and giving them a pat on the back.”

Ms Crawter was one of 11 award winners from across the Isaac region, who were selected from 47 nominees.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Anne Baker said all of the nominees made a contribution to make their communities brighter every day.

“The awards recognised and celebrated the achievements of the everyday women with their stories of empowerment and personal victory who are the cornerstone of Isaac people power,” Cr Baker said.

“It was amazing to see this strong message empowering and inspiring all the women, girls and men who attended to embrace and celebrate their uniqueness.”

The awards were part of Queensland Women’s Week and International Women’s Day celebrations from Thursday March 5 to Saturday March 14.
