Marian man in hospital after driving burning tractor to protect worksite

The man is in hospital after he drove a burning tractor to protect his worksite from going up in flames.

A man is in hospital after he bravely drove a front loader tractor away from his potentially flammable worksite in Marian.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said crews were called to the fire near the Anzac Avenue section of Mackay Eungella Road about 8.30pm Friday.

She said a man in his 50s was treated for smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

A police spokesman said when the operator realised the tractor was on fire, he drove it away from the worksite where there was a pile of sugar cane.

He said the blaze was non-suspicious and a mechanical fault had caused the fire.
