HE blinks, he talks and he has a pulse but he is certainly not your regular patient.
Peter, one of the Mackay Base Hospital's training mannequins, was put to use yesterday by medical professionals learning how to respond to trauma cases.
Mackay Base Hospital nursing director for education and research Leane Christie said Peter was a vital training tool.
"The purpose of the simulation is to simulate an experience so people feel like they are in a real situation," Dr Christie said.
During the training exercise Peter was given a new name, was wearing torn bike shorts and was splattered in blood.
He took on the identity of 'Trent', who had just crashed his bike in a road race.
He was in a bad way and the doctors had to ensure his survival.
During the exercise the atmosphere in the theatre room was tense as the nurses rushed to his aid.
"The benefit of this course is that people improve their communication and team skills as well as their clinical skills," Dr Christe said.
Peter is a state-of-the-art mannequin and is connected to WiFi.
