Mackay’s Bluewater Quay cafe for lease: Council

The moment is ripe to capitalise on a multimillion-dollar riverside development with an empty cafe up for grabs as well as two established well-known businesses.

A prime dining spot along Mackay’s picturesque blue riverfront has had zero customers for more than two years but that could soon change.

Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson said the council was scouting for a new tenant to fit out and operate a food and beverage business in its premises formerly operating as Ashtart.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with vision to come in and set up a distinctive food and beverage business that will take advantage of this amazing space,” Cr Williamson said.

“It would be great to see some really creative tenders that provide a new and unique destination for locals and visitors alike to enjoy our riverfront.”

Cr Williamson said the site was nestled in the Mackay Waterfront Priority Development Area with council working alongside businesses and community members to roll out activation and placemaking activities.

“The team would be keen to work with the future operator to identify opportunities for this space that complement the PDA works,” he said.

It is anticipated the first stage of the PDA which includes a boardwalk, arbour and pontoon, will be open by Christmas.

Also up for grabs in Mackay city is the longstanding Mackay Music store along Sydney St.

Having owned the store for 20 of its 31 years, the owners are “ready to hang up the microphone” and enjoy retirement, the Explore Property Commercial listing states.

“But the show must go on and the current owners want this incredible opportunity to be taken up by another passionate business operator,” it continues.

Explore Property also has another commercial premise for sale just across the road for $500,000, a store known for its high teas and French provincial decor, listed at $500,000.
