Loved ones are rallying behind the family of a Mackay teen who nearly lost her leg in a serious crash at Mount Pleasant.
Zoe Hoffman, 13, is in the intensive care unit at Townsville with her family by her bedside after suffering multiple life threatening injuries on November 12.
The terrible incident occurred at 3.55pm near the Farmer and Loudon St intersection where the Year 7 Carlisle Adventist College student had been riding her bike.
Police investigations are ongoing.
“My beautiful 13 year old niece Zoe was involved in a terrible accident where she was hit by a car while riding her bike,” her aunt Erin Jobson write on a GoFundMe page that has already raised $3495 for the family.
“She sustained multiple life-threatening injuries including nearly losing her leg and a broken neck requiring her to now wear a Halo among many other serious injuries.”
Zoe was flown to Townsville University Hospital where she remains in ICU.
“Zoe and her family are facing a very challenging journey where the emotional and physical toll is immense as they have to remain in Townsville away from their home and work,” Ms Jobson wrote.
“We are reaching out to our community and to all the friends and family of the Hoffman’s who have expressed that they want to offer financial support.
“The costs associated with being away from home is quickly adding up and we anticipate a long journey ahead.”
Ms Jobson said any “generous support” would help Zoe’s family to stay by her side as she undergoes medical treatment in Townsville, as well as with modifications to the family home to allow Zoe to continue her rehabilitation.
“Every gesture of kindness is deeply appreciated, your compassion and generosity mean more than words can express,” Ms Jobson wrote.
Zoe’s school, Carlisle Adventist College, also offered support and kind words on social media.
“As most of you may be aware, Zoe Hoffman in Year 7, was recently involved in a terrible accident where she was hit by a car while riding her bike,” a post on the school’s Facebook page read.
“In support of the Hoffman family, we are sharing this with our Carlisle Community or anyone who may feel impressed to contribute financially.
“Every gesture of kindness is deeply appreciated by the Hoffman family.”
