A WEST Mackay man has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly bashing two people until they were hospitalised earlier this year.

James Stuart Sprott, 28, has also been charged with grievous bodily harm, entering a premises with intent, assault occasioning bodily harm while armed (with a bottle) and two counts of seriously assaulting police.

Mr Sprott had not entered pleas to any of the charges.

It's alleged Mr Sprott seriously assaulted a male and female at a home in Grant Street, Mackay about 11pm on April 11, according to a Queensland Police spokesman.

Mr Sprott's also accused of assaulting police on the night.

The police spokesman said the male and female were taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition at the time.

Mr Sprott faced Mackay Magistrates Court via videolink from prison on Wednesday for a brief mention, represented by solicitor Antoinette Morton, of Morton Lawyers.

Ms Morton indicated the charges will proceed via registry committal.

A registry committal is an administrative process which results in a person charged with a serious or indictable offence being committed (or referred up) from the Magistrates Court to a higher court for sentencing or trial.

Magistrate Scott Luxton adjourned the case to later in September.
