Mackay Isaac Tourism thanks volunteers for dedication

‘Their personal stories, passion and energy sell our region and its experiences far more than a pretty picture in a brochure ever could.’

They are the men and women who help cement the best of memories in visitors’ minds, and it is all done for free and with a friendly smile.

Now those knowledgeable locals, which Mackay Mayor Greg Williamson says are an essential part of the fabric of the region, have been thanked with a special morning tea.

Mackay Isaac Tourism presented volunteers with commemorative pins and certificates highlighting the number of hours and years each volunteer has been a part of the organisation.

“Our tourism volunteers are often the difference between a visitor stopping and exploring our region or driving on by,” Cr Williamson said.

“Their personal stories, passion and energy sell our region and its experiences far more than a pretty picture in a brochure ever could.

“They are a key facet in our tourism industry and the Mackay Region is thankful to them for their help.”

The volunteers help visitors at the Mackay Region Visitor Information Centre at the Sarina Field of Dreams Precinct and the Mackay Region Visitor Information Kiosk in the Mackay CBD.

Mackay Isaac Tourism CEO Tas Webber said the volunteers’ extensive local knowledge helped add to the visitor experience in the region.

“The volunteers help visitors understand our region better with their invaluable local knowledge and their insight into Mackay’s hero experiences helps travellers discover our home better,” Mr Webber said.

“They are an integral part of Mackay Isaac Tourism and without their hard work and dedication, we wouldn’t have been able to open the Visitor Information Network.”

In the past year, the volunteers have helped more than 13,500 visitors through both Visitor Information Centres.
