Mackay health care workers praised for their work during Covid-19

The Mackay community has posted heartfelt thanks to the region’s hardworking healthcare staff who don their scrubs and PPE everyday to keep us safe. See the 60+ messages.

COVID-19 affecting one in 20 Qld health staff

As Covid continues to infiltrate Mackay, the community has rallied behind its frontline workers and health care staff thanking them for their valiant efforts.

The region passed 4000 Covid-19 cases on Friday with 12 being treated in the Mackay Base Hospital Covid Ward.

This publication put a call out on Facebook inviting the community to thank the nurses, doctors and all who work behind the scenes of the region’s health care — and Mackay delivered.

Some healthcare workers received a personal mention from friends and family calling out all their valiant efforts.

Nat Dillon: “Nerida Bates and Kiera James I don‘t know where you girls are working, but I appreciate you!”

Catriona McGuire: “Wonderful ladies at Sullivan Nicolaides on Willett Street doing Covid tests this morning. We appreciate your professionalism at this time.”

David Patroni: “Thank you Morgan Patroni.”

Michelle Black: “We missed you over the holidays Nikaela Black you are amazing with the hard yards you have put in for Mackay community and their loved ones.”

Courtney Georgina “Plaza Medical Mackay.”

Scott Banney: “Janna Gabbert not all superheroes wear capes, some wear scrubs as well.”

Sherrie Bowater: “Caitlin Place ya da MVP.”

Other community members took it upon themselves to thank strangers for their hard work in keeping our region safe.

Lesley N Nye Keegan: “What would we do without our frontline health care workers. Their commitment under extremely trying conditions is absolutely awesome, to say the least. Thank you all.”

Sharon McPartland: “Big thank you guys you don’t get enough credit out there.”

Kath O’Brien: “To all the medical receptionists working in General Practice that are being abused, sworn at, accused of lying etc you are the true frontline of primary care. You constantly have to duck and weave and pivot with every policy change and government announcement without any prior warning. All while trying to accommodate everyone’s needs and protect the staff, doctors and vulnerable patients in your practice. Well done to all of you! And to those who feel it is OK to swear at and abuse these people, shame on you.”

Sharon-lee Allen: “How could we help exhausted health workers? I would be more than willing to help out mowing someone’s lawn or do some gardening for a few hours on my days off.”

Robyn Woodo: “I think ALL health care workers need a medal and an all expenses paid [trip] to a secluded beach. They are all doing a marvellous job working. I’m not talking about the hierarchies who go to work an stay in their offices. They are not on the frontline like the rest of the workers are. There is no way I would pay out thousands of dollars to become a doctor, registered nurse or enrolled nurse.”

Michael Pinyon: “They certainly put up with some ungrateful people in their chosen career. Keep soldiering on to keep us all safe in the best way possible.”
