A car has ploughed through a motel fence and landed in a pool along the Bruce Highway with emergency services called to free the driver.
Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the Tropic Coast Motel along Nebo Rd in Mackay just after 10am.
Tropic Coast Motel manager Maria Romeo said witnesses reported seeing the red hatchback travelling south on Nebo Rd before it veered over the median strip, across two lanes of oncoming traffic, and smashed through the motel’s fence.
She said the driver was seen to be holding their chest before the car lost control.
The car was immersed in a plunge pool after a team of paramedics and firefighters pulled the door off to free the male driver, transporting him on a stretcher with a neck brace.
Mrs Romeo said a loud bang alerted her to the crash.
“I rushed out and saw the car in the pool,” Mrs Romeo said.
“Some others raced to the car as well so I raced back to the office and rang triple-0.
“I couldn’t believe it, it was oh my gosh, there’s a car in the pool.”
She said the crash had impacted the four large gas bottles at the motel next-door but it was fortunate it had missed the power pole.
The gardens along the pathway were crushed in the crash with several fence panels also flattened around the children’s playground.
The northbound lanes of the Bruce Highway were closed while the scene was made safe.
