THE nation’s newest skills and innovation incubator has appointed a well-known Mackay business leader as general manager.
The Resources Centre of Excellence will be steered by Steven Boxall who will return to Mackay after a successful stint as Barcaldine Regional Council CEO.
Mr Boxall will help grow the RCOE in its role as the link between businesses and educators, research providers and other stakeholders, as it establishes the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday region as a globally connected enterprise hotspot.
As a result, the RCOE is poised to deliver economic growth, technology development and job creation, particularly in emerging careers.

“Steven brings to the RCOE tertiary business qualifications, local government experience, general management experience and director experience in private enterprise,” Mr Caruso said.
“Most importantly Steven brings recent experience in stakeholder facilitation where he has successfully brought together key project proponents to collaborate and deliver economic benefits.”
Mr Boxall will initially actively meet with a range of stakeholders across the mining, METS, agriculture, bio-futures and livestock resource sectors, collaborating with researchers and educators to bring together the brightest minds who will work together to solve industries’ complex contemporary issues.

“A key feature in Steven’s role will be the realisation of the RCOE partnership with the Central Queensland University’s newly established Chair in Automation and Future Work Skills to research and develop the future workforce skills required to take advantage of emerging technologies and digital transformation in industry,” Mr Caruso said.
“On behalf of the RCOE board we look forward to working with Steven in this new and exciting role and delivering some great things for the MIW region.”
Mr Caruso added that the general manager role was supported through funding by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance.
