Mackay author’s bold career change inspires No. 1 bestseller

Top book on Amazon traces her journey into the mining industry after working in the corporate sector for decades

AFTER more than 30 years working in the corporate sector, a Mackay woman kicked off her high heels to join the rail and mining industry.

Writing about her adventure in High Heels to High Vis, Mackay author Jo Sainsbury has seen her book join the ranks of Amazon’s number one bestsellers.

Ms Sainsbury, who works as a coal train driver, said she was a strong believer in women considering non-traditional roles and careers.

“I am thankful every day that I took the plunge into an industry role and I want women to know that these roles are worth pursuing,” Ms Sainsbury said.

Making the career switch seven years ago, the mum of two said she had no contacts, experience and knew little about the industry and how to apply.

Her book is a guide for women who find themselves in a similar position.

“The feedback from readers has blown my mind,” Ms Sainsbury said.

“I’ve received messages via my social media channels from women of all ages saying that I have inspired them to look outside the traditional career paths.”

But she said unwrapping the first copy of her book was a “truly self-fulfilling moment” she will never forget.
