TEENAGE heartbreak, mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse, travelling, living overseas and finding oneself.
These are the real-life experiences explored in Mackay-born Abbey Formosa’s first book and memoir, 13 Insights to a Gen Z Awakening.
Ms Formosa, now 22 years old, said it was “nerve-racking” to share her journey with others but she hoped it would help other teenagers and young adults navigate the highs and lows of life.
“I want them to see there’s a way out and a way back into themselves,” Ms Formosa said.
The book’s synopsis does not hold back from the lows such as “six months of European travel, full of nights getting blackout drunk, and locking herself in the toilets crying … wonder(ing) if she would ever find her way out of the ever present sadness”.
