THE spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Mackay with more than $30,000 raised in the annual Triple M Toy Drive.
This new record left Triple M breakfast hosts Jay Shipston and Dave Peters speechless.
The hosts went to Toyworld on Wednesday to buy presents for children in need.
Mr Shipston said COVID-19 caused a drop in fundraising efforts for sports and community groups in regional areas and as such, he did not expect a big year for the annual Toy Drive.
"But the Mackay and Whitsunday communities have rallied in what can only be described as a phenomenal effort," he said.
"In better news, it wasn't just the community that has given so generously - over $30,000 has been donated by Mackay businesses.
"A huge thank you and shout out to businesses that have stepped up and supported the Toy Drive including Prochem ($7500), Ma's Pizza Kitchen ($3000), The Southern Cross Group ($5000), G&S Engineering ($5430) and Poppy's Pizza ($2000).
"This figure is the most ever donated to Triple M's Toy Drive and we are absolutely blown away.

"As the longest-running breakfast show in Mackay and the Whitsundays, we are incredibly proud to be involved in fundraising work across the region," he said.
"The success of the Toy Drive this year is amazing and we are very proud to be a part of a community that cares so much for each other."
