Long Island re-opens for business

GOOD news for Long Island lovers, the resort has re-opened and is ready for business.

GOOD news for Long Island lovers, the resort has re-opened and is ready for business.

The resort closed in February to refurbish the restaurant and to undergo facility repairs following Cyclone Yasi.

With the work now complete, the popular resort is open to the public and boasts a revamped hotel restaurant and refreshed public areas.

Whitsundays tourism CEO Peter O'Reilly welcomed the news with open arms and said it would provide a great boost for local tourism.

“It's a great action with all of the refurbishments and I've heard nothing but praise,” Mr O'Reilly said.

The revamp also provides a positive outlook for the other islands and the season ahead.

“Hamilton Island is going strong with the corporate market. Hayman Island is still closed until the 1st of August,” he said.

Mr O'Reilly said the Whitsundays was beginning to see the results.

“The Whitsundays had a very good Easter season but May has been tough, and it has been for some years,” he said.

He said the message that the Whitsundays was open was being heard and the outlook for the season ahead was positive.

“We're looking to the June and July holidays to turn that around,” he said.

The resort formally known as Club Croc now falls under the Ocean Hotels banner and shares with Airlie Beach's Club Croc.

Long Island is one of the 74 Whitsunday Islands officially known as the Cumberland group. The island is known for its sailing conditions and its vibrant blue waters that is created by fine particles of suspended siliceous sediment reflecting light in the water.
