Lendlease calls for subcontractors on Caneland Central project

THE ball is slowly moving on the highly anticipated expansion of Caneland Central shopping centre.

THE ball is slowly moving on the highly anticipated expansion of Caneland Central shopping centre.

In April, Lendlease secured approval from Mackay Regional Council to extend the shopping centre to include a cinema - with five theatres and one Vmax theatre - and a further seven restaurants and undercover parking.

At that time, Caneland Central centre manager Simon De Barro told the Daily Mercury Lendlease needed to secure the "required investment approvals” before development could go ahead.

Speculation that work on the expansion may be about to start was fuelled on Saturday by a Lendlease ad seeking expressions of interest from suitable "retail experienced” subcontractors across all trades.

However, the company poured cold water on any major progress, telling the Daily Mercury this week they were merely gauging the market for subcontractors and a project start date had not yet been set.

"Caneland Central is working through the relevant milestones that need to be met before development can proceed,” Mr De Barro, said.
