A husband watched on as police desperately tried to save his wife after she was pinned under part of a vehicle at a rural property just north of Mackay.
Tragically the 37-year-old mother of two died at the scene.
Emergency services including police, paramedics, critical care and fire crews were called to the Kuttabul address just before 2pm Saturday when the horror incident occurred.
Senior Sergeant Lindsay Kuhrt said the couple had been working on a body truck.
“The back of the truck was a tilt tray, it had been lifted and was being held up by a strap,” the Mackay police district duty officer said.
The woman had been working underneath the tray.
“The strap has snapped and the back of the body truck has fallen down on top of her, trapping her,” Senior Sergeant Kuhrt said.
A police crew, who had been down the road, and her husband lifted the tray enough to pull her from under the vehicle and immediately began CPR, he said.
Intensive care paramedics were also called and took over once they arrived at the Sorensen Rd address.
Tragically all attempts to revive the woman failed and she died at the scene.
Senior Sergeant Kuhrt said the incident was very sad.
“It’s never easy,” he said.
“You’ve got the emotions of the family who are traumatised by what’s happened, you’ve got officers who are also human and they do their best under the circumstances.
“First of all they had to as best as possible recover her from where she was trapped and then assess her and commence CPR.”
Senior Sergeant Kuhrt said paramedics did everything they could to try and save the woman.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman earlier today confirmed paramedics were treating a woman in a critical condition.
She also said the RACQ CQ Rescue chopper had been tasked, however Senior Sergeant Kuhrt said the helicopter was not flying because of the weather.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
