Fire engines are rushing northward up the Bruce Highway after reports of smoke in the roof of a building in a small town between Mackay and the Whitsundays.

Two crews from the Queensland Fire Department are en route to Kuttabul after receiving reports of a possible building fire just after 3pm.

Queensland Police arrived earlier, with a spokesman telling this masthead all staff had evacuated before they arrived.

“There is no danger to human life,” he said.
It is believed it was an electrical fault in the roof causing the smoke, but the pumps were turned off as a precaution, the spokesman said.
