FRESH from her victory at the weekend's election, Mackay MP Julieanne Gilbert says she would happily accept "whatever position the premier asks me to fill".

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will be making decisions about her new-look Cabinet over the coming days.

It is not known whether this would include Mrs Gilbert, now entering her third term as MP and having previously held the Assistant Minister for Treasury and Assistant Minister for State Development roles.

With Mines Minister Anthony Lynham stepping down from politics, the Daily Mercury understands both Mrs Gilbert and Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher are being considered as possible replacements.

But the Mackay MP remained tight-lipped when asked about her own aspirations.

"The Cabinet positions are up to the premier, so she will make sure she gets a good mix of southeast corner and regional ministers in that," Mrs Gilbert said.

"Whatever position the premier asks me to fill in her team, I would fill.

"The mining portfolio is a very important portfolio and I know whoever ends up with it will make a good job of it."

The MP who takes over the position of mines minister will have the critical role of ensuring safety remains a top priority across Queensland sites as the industry recovers from a spate of fatalities.

The industry will also be key to the state's economic recovery post-COVID.

Mrs Gilbert said her key priority now was to ensure all election commitments promised to Mackay were rolled out "as soon as possible".

"I'm really excited to get started on our new manufacturing hub for Mackay, which will have a focus on our agricultural industries," she said.

"This is going to be so important to Mackay."
