Mackay Private Hospital is the single largest dedicated private rehabilitation facility in Central and North Queensland.

I AM a 74-year-old lady and I am a visitor to your lovely city. I originally came for two weeks and have been here for two and a half months so far after having an accident.

After site treatment I was taken to Mackay Base Hospital by ambulance in pain I’ve never experienced in my life and spent the day in 1 Emergency.

After being assessed I was taken to ICU to be prepared for my first operation. I can’t praise enough the care I received while there.

I had my second operation from G2, which is an osteopath ward where I spent two weeks. I found the specialist to be very skilled and caring and easy to talk to. The nursing staff were very dedicated and cheerful, nothing was too much trouble.

I’d had a back operation in one of the biggest hospitals in Sydney four months before coming to Mackay. There, the service was impeccable but impersonal, whereas here it is different in a very good way.

I was then transferred to Mackay Rehabilitation Hospital and have been here for eight weeks, plus. The nurses are hard-working and empathetic, they go over and above, whatever care needed, they deliver.

The physios, I have found to be so cheerful and positive they push you to your limit and get amazing results.

They also give you back your dignity.

The rest of the staff, from the kitchen — great cook — to the cleaners and the handyman, do a wonderful job but are always ready for a chat or a laugh; also Pam, who kept me supplied with books.

I won’t forget Mackay, I’ve met a slew of lovely people and hopefully made some lasting friends.
