A honeymooner has been charged over the fatal Hamilton Island buggy crash that killed his new wife.
Police have charged Robbie Morgan with a series of offences, including driving without due care and attention causing death, failing to wear a seatbelt and using a mobile phone, over the incident in June that saw the golf buggy he and his wife were travelling in roll on a road on the resort island.
He is also charged with driving while his passenger – wife Marina Morgan – was not wearing a seatbelt.
The Sydney couple had been married 10 days earlier in an elaborate ceremony and reception at Doltone House.
Marina, 29, died on the afternoon of June 20 as her husband allegedly attempted a U-turn on Whitsunday Boulevard.
She was crushed by the buggy and attempts by an off-duty firefighter, a doctor and dentist to save her were unsuccessful.
Robbie, 30, was not injured in the crash. Police say an extensive investigation led to him being charged.
“My heart is broken and my world shattered with the tragic loss of the most beautiful girl in the world. my angel. my saint. my wife Marina Hanna,” he wrote on Facebook following his wife’s death.
“My rock, my partner, my confidant, my angel, my saint, my everything! The world will never be the same …
“I will love you forever and ever and EVER!”
He is expected to appear before Proserpine Magistrates Court on December 5.
