House relocation to Finch Hatton Gorge causes Mirani traffic jam

Think a passing semi-trailer is difficult to deal with? Try being stuck in traffic behind a whole house.

House relocation to Finch Hatton Gorge causes Mirani traffic jam

The stress of moving house was shared with an entire community as a woman’s entire home was transported by truck down a rural highway.

With the one storey house on its back the moving truck took up almost the entire road and caused delays in Mirani, crawling up the Pioneer Valley on October 18.

Traffic was delayed and roads were blocked as one woman's house was moved further up the Pioneer Valley.

Shared to the Finch Hatton Community Forum Facebook page, commenters claimed the moving truck backed up traffic from Mackay-Eungella Rd all the way to Marian, 10 minutes east of Mirani.

Copping some flak for blocking the road, mover Lachlan Stamp said he personally undid all road signs before passing and put them back in place and laid the blame for the traffic delay on the poor parking of a Mirani resident.

Drivers pulled over to the side of the road to allow the truck to pass while traffic built up in both lanes behind the house.

A video taken by Mick Tome shows drivers pulling to the side of the road to make way for the mobile home, while traffic carefully followed behind.

The car made its way from Mirani towards Finch Hatton Gorge crossing over narrow bridges where the edges of the house hung over steep drops.

Jamie Goodwin came forward claiming responsibility for the home and thanked the posters for sharing the photos.

“I had to work today and could not see in person,” Ms Goodwin said.

“Thanks to you I have some momentous records of our house arriving.”

The author of the original post welcomed Ms Goodwin “to the gorge”.

“It was not what I was expecting on my way to work today.”
