A yacht docked at a Hamilton Island marina has been destroyed after it was fully engulfed in flames on Monday morning.
Queensland Fire and Emergency crews were called to the Hamilton Island Marine Terrace marina about 10.40am, with vision from the island showing huge plumes of black smoke billowing from the vessel, which appeared to be moored next to a number of other luxury vessels.
Vision shot by onlookers, including Topnotch Game Fishing, shows at least one inflatable vessel circling the large yacht and attempting to douse the flames.
A QFES spokeswoman said there was no one on board the boat when the fire started and the cause was now under investigation.
A QFES spokesman said firefighters were still trying to extinguish the flames shortly before 1pm with the boat taking on water.
He said there was no present concerns the blaze would spread to neighbouring vessels.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said one crew was also called on to help.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics were still on scene but no patients were assessed.
She says they would remain on standby for the QFES team.
VMR Whitsundays skipper Mal Priday said VMR 1 had been activated to ferry out another fire crew to Hamilton Island.
“We’re just waiting for the firies here, we will be leaving here at 4.30pm,” he said.
“One fire crew of five so they can inspect the boat and make sure there is nothing else of concern.
“Conditions are awful. It’s blowing 27-30 knots.”
Just after 6pm, Mr Priday confirmed the vessel was still on fire and slowly sinking.
