WHEN a Mackay franchisee came out to Habana with his food truck, he had not anticipated buying a family home there only months later.

But Mackay Zambrero owner and North Mackay resident Peter Quinn said he was overwhelmed by the community's support and atmosphere.

"We obviously started coming out with the food truck when COVID first hit," Mr Quinn said.

"We got a lot of requests from the Habana people because no one delivers out there.

"We were overwhelmed with what happened on the first night.

"We just fell in love with the place, the people, the community."

He said his family were going to wait a few years before purchasing, but they could not resist when a home and two hectares came on the market at the right price.

"We're stoked," he said.

"The kids just love it.

"There's room, they can do what they want, you don't have to worry about the next-door neighbour.

"We're a little bit ahead of our time so we've rented it out for 12 months and then we'll hopefully move out next year," Mr Quinn said.

But he said they had already bought motorbikes for the children this Christmas in anticipation.
