A Proserpine father stumbled onto one of Mackay’s best kept secrets when he found himself stranded along the Bruce Highway.
“I broke down in Pindi Pindi and the RACQ mob said there was a fair at Calen,” Tom Uren said.
“They dropped us off.”
Mr Uren and his daughter Amity Croswell discovered the Calen Country Fair, an annual mega fundraiser for Calen District College that could be best described as fair-dinkum old-fashioned country fun.
Whether you were bidding on agricultural machinery, lining up to get your face painted, cuddling a week-old piglet or scoffing down some delicious home-baked treats, there was live music, festoon lighting and an open bar to transition the crowd from day to night-time festivities.
