A SERIAL sex offender serving four indefinite jail terms for sex attacks in Brisbane and Mackay will stay behind bars for the immediate future.

Raymond Henry Garland, 42, is considered one of Australia's most dangerous sexual predators, beginning his offending at age 14 and spending most of his life behind bars since.

Queensland's justice system must periodically review indefinite sentences.

Following a three-day hearing earlier this month, Judge Kiernan Dorney delivered his findings on Wednesday.

His reasons for keeping Garland behind bars will be published online later today.

Garland, labelled a psychopath by psychologists during the hearing, raped and sodomised a 14-year-old girl in 1985, sodomised two teenage boys, aged 14 and 15, in 1987 and held a group of people hostage in South Mackay in 1997.

He raped a five-months pregnant woman and sodomised a 16-year-old boy during the nine-hour siege.
