Mackay Christian College formal

A CLOSE-KNIT cohort of 46 students from Mackay Christian College celebrated the end of their high school years with an "enchanted forest" themed formal.

This year, the celebration moved from the MECC to the Powerhouse building on the school's junior campus because of COVID-19.

Principal Dr Barclie Gallogray said the school wanted to give the same "beautiful send off" as previous years, despite the pandemic.

"All of our staff have worked insanely hard to make this a beautiful place," Dr Gallogray said.

"We started this morning with an assembly where they all got up and spoke about their school careers and what they've done.

"They were overwhelming; talking about how this is a school that cares about them."

Event co-ordinator and administration assistant Wendy Blake said the greenery and lighting used in the main dining area helped tie together the "enchanted" theme of the night.

There was also an exclusive green room were students could get a variety of selfies.

"We wanted to make it really special for them because of everything that's happened this year with COVID," Ms Blake said.

"No matter what, we were adamant that they were going to have a graduation no matter how big or small."
