FOR teacher Sue de Haas, taking her passion for jewellery making to the Mackay Show for the first time is exciting.

Miss de Haas, a maths teacher, is teaming up with a fellow teacher to take part in a fashion show.

Miss De Haas will  also have a stand in the 500 Pavilion.

"Kerry Alexander of Kerry Sea designs is also a teacher and she designs kaftans. She designs the material and gets them made. She's having a fashion show and asked me if I would do the jewellery for the fashion parades," she said.

Miss de Haas' business, Suede Handmade jewellery, came about by chance and now keeps her busy when she's away from the classroom.

"I make necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings," she said.

"I also have added name and word keyrings. Earrings are still my most popular seller."

Miss de Haas spends hours rolling, cutting and assembling her jewellery from polymer clay, which is then baked in the oven.

She will be at several markets over the next few months including the Handmade Markets, the Mackay Show, Rock Paper Scissors Market in July and the Festival of Arts Wine and Food Day.

"They are all really big markets. So I've been pretty busy making at the moment," she said. "Pastels and naturals are still really popular and navy-coloured beads always sell really well. Peach tones and mustards are also quite popular too."

Miss de Haas has added some new designs to her jewellery lately including square beads and more single-strand necklaces.

"They're really good for layering, so if you want to wear a few different colours together you can," she said.

"I like chunky and bold and bright, so there is something for everyone."

Miss de Haas market stalls also have a 'bead buffet' that allows customers to pick and choose their beads and design their own jewellery.

To purchase or order a custom-made design you can find Miss de Haas' designs at Suede Craft on Facebook.
